GREAT EARTHQUAKE: Trifecta of South Pacific Quakes Topped by Largest to Strike Region in Nearly a Half-Century

“Jesus said, There shall be great earthquakes in divers places.” – Luke 21:11/Matthew 24:7/Mark 13:8

A magnitude 8.1 earthquake that struck the South Pacific region on Friday came within just a few hours of a pair of powerful quakes that registered magnitudes 7.4 and 7.3. Because the three quakes struck in the ocean, they did not cause significant damage or injuries, but did prompt tsunami warnings for a half-dozen countries. New Zealand felt the worst of this trifecta.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the 8.1 magnitude quake had occurred at the intersection of the Pacific and Australia tectonic plates and eclipsed the largest quake that was previously recorded in the region – a magnitude 8.0 in 1976. Jennifer Eccles, an earthquake expert at the University of Auckland, said that the quake was at the top end of the scale for those involving only the Earth’s ocean crust. “This is about as big as it gets,” she said.

This just continues the trend of historic earthquakes rattling the globe in our generation. Last year, in 2020, a powerful 7.7 magnitude quake rocked Jamaica and the Caribbean. In 2019, the 6th most powerful earthquake in California’s history struck the State – a 7.1 magnitude. In 2018, Alaska was violently shook by a 7.0 magnitude quake. In 2017, the most powerful quake to strike Mexico in a century occurred – an 8.1 magnitude. That quake destroyed thousands of homes and was felt by tens of millions of people. And, in 2016, a massive 7.8 magnitude quake struck Christchurch, New Zealand.

I wrote extensively about all of these major quakes in previous articles, so type “earthquake” in the Search tab (located in the footer section of this website) to read more about these historic temblors.

It seems to me like the devastating 9.0 magnitude earthquake and deadly tsunami that ravaged Japan – in this very month back in 2011 – triggered a decade of great and powerful quakes. Since the year 2000, there have been about 300 earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or higher. In the past ten years alone, there have been 10 GREAT earthquakes of magnitude 8.0 or higher.

So, we’ve been averaging one per year of the quakes that Jesus said would be occurring in the season of His return. There have also been about 130 powerful quakes in this same timespan of magnitudes 7.0-7.9 – averaging just over a dozen per year.

There is no denying that our generation has seen an uptick in massive earthquakes, and this is Biblically significant. When asked about the signs of His return by the disciples, Lord Jesus said that there would be “great earthquakes in divers places, and famines, and pestilences.” The Coronavirus is what the Holy Bible refers to as a pestilence.

As I’ve pointed out in my books, the signs of our Lord coming back down to rapture the faithful are all around us. If you haven’t been watchful and ready, then now would be a great time to start! If you want to read more about the great earthquakes of our generation, and how they are heralding the Rapture, grab my first two books in the “Signs of Our Times” series by clicking on the image below. Keep looking up my friends!

“The earth is moved exceedingly. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.” – Isaiah 24:19-20

  1. With all of the many additional things going on, increases crime and violence, sex perversion, churches outright turning from God, serious talks on globalism, and plans by Iran and her allies to attack Israel, plus quakes now more frequent in the eastern US, I would be more and more ready spiritually for the Rapture.
