Since the inception of Biblical Signs In The Headlines, I have written many articles documenting China’s war on Christianity. Though much of what I’ve written about the antiChrist country doesn’t see the light of day in the mainstream news outlets here in America, the Chinese government’s latest crackdown on believers was so brazen that all major news organizations had to report on it.
I’m speaking of China’s new online “Bible ban”. Last week, Chinese Christians were unable to find the Holy Bible listed on their country’s biggest online retailers. If you searched the word “Bible” on Amazon, Taobao, Jingdong, or Dang Dang, you would receive a “no results” response according to the South China Morning Post.
Search analytics revealed a large spike in the keyword “Bible” on March 30th, but by April 1st, the analytics showed ZERO searches. This data proves that the Chinese government began CENSORING the word on the internet in the communist country. Just before the Holy Bible was banned from being purchased online, the government released a document promoting “Chinese Christianity” over the next 5 years. In it, the powers that be in China laid out the key objectives for their “State-run faith”.
The main objective is to “reinterpret and retranslate” the Bible to “enhance Chinese-style Christianity and theology.” I think it’s crystal clear that the government “reinterpreting and retranslating” really means that they are “REWRITING” the Holy Bible to suit their corrupt agenda. Also, before being banned online, the Holy Bible was prohibited in China’s commercial brick-and-mortar stores. It was only available for purchase in Church bookstores.
The texts of all other major faiths in China, such as Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Taoism are all available to purchase in stores and online. Only the Holy Bible has been BANNED, both in-stores and online. Even an atheist blogger for the website “Patheos” took issue with the Bible-ban, writing “The Chinese policy adds fuel to Christians’ persecution complex, and no one can say that, in this case, they don’t have a valid, even important point.”
The recent crackdown on the Christian faith is just the latest atrocity in a long string of Biblically-hostile actions by the Chinese government. Earlier this year, China’s atheist leaders rolled out many regulations on faith. One of the most egregious regulations was that “Christian groups must gain government approval for any religious activity, including – using a personal home for a religious practice .. publishing religious materials .. calling oneself a pastor .. studying theology.”
Many people in America and the western world do not realize how extremely difficult it has become to be a believer in China today. Christians are treated like criminals. This has a lot to do with the country’s current, and most likely long-term, antiChrist leadership. Earlier this year, the Chinese parliament voted to drop presidential term limits, which allows president Xi Jinping to rule FOR LIFE.
Xi’s rule has been hell for China’s Christians. Under his rule, there has been a multi-year campaign to remove crosses from churches, and known Christian households in some provinces were ordered to remove their Christian symbols and replace them with pictures of president Xi. Jinping has said that religions which do not “conform to communist ideals” threaten his government, and MUST become more “Chinese-oriented”.
There is currently a ban in place for Christian gatherings, and in some provinces police require Christians to report where they are going every time they leave their homes. Some worshippers have been placed under house arrest. Churches not sanctioned by the government have been put under surveillance, and hundreds of believers have been arrested for “disturbing public order” for offences such as holding Bible study groups and displaying Crucifixes outside of their homes.
2 months ago, it was widely reported that over 100 Christians were sent to “re-education” camps where they were taught to be “loyal to the country’s ideologies over their personal religion”. Earlier this month, a Chinese priest shared a video of authorities tearing down crosses from a local Catholic Church in Henan province. In another instance in the Henan province, about 300 police officers and officials demolished a Church under construction.
The officers reportedly dragged some 40 Christians out of the Church. 8 of the congregants were taken into police custody. The Christian human rights organization, China Aid, said that “During the demolition, the officials beat dozens of the Church members, pushing them to the ground and twisting their hands… The Church was completely razed, and a Church member likened the scene to the Japanese invasion of China during World War II.”
According to the Church members, Xi Jinping’s Communist Party ordered the Church to be destroyed after branding the building an “illegal structure”. In another raid in eastern China’s Anhui province, government officials confiscated all Bibles and religious items, and threatened to punish the leader of the Church. The Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ is especially hated by Jinping’s government.
It has been reported that between 2014-16, more than 1,700 crosses were forcefully removed from Churches in just ONE Chinese province alone. China Aid’s president, Bob Fu, told The Christian Post: “The top leadership is increasingly worried about the rapid growth of the Christian faith, their public presence, and their social influence.”
It is is no wonder that China makes the Open Doors’ “World Watch List” every year, which highlights the Top 50 Countries where it is most dangerous to be a Christian. Pray for our brothers and sisters in China, because the communist country, and its president Xi Jinping, perfectly fulfill Philippians 3:18 – “.. They are the ENEMIES of the Cross of CHRIST.”
“(They are) HATERS OF GOD….” ~ Romans 1:30
“JESUS said, BLESSED are they which are PERSECUTED for Righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. Blessed are you, when men shall REVILE you, and PERSECUTE you, and shall say all manner of EVIL against you falsely, for MY SAKE. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for GREAT is your reward in Heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets which were before you.” ~ Matthew 5:10-12
“JESUS said, Remember the word that I said unto you, The SERVANT is not greater than his LORD. If they have PERSECUTED ME, they will also persecute YOU.” ~ John 15:20
“JESUS said.. Take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you into.. PRISONS, for you shall be brought before RULERS and kings for MY SAKE, for a testimony AGAINST THEM.” ~ Mark 13:9/Luke 21:12
Excellent article! Very true and very very sad. Christianity is being attacked on every front. In the middle east many Christians have been martyred for their faith.
