“Fake News”, “Liberal lies”, “Another hit-piece from the Left”… Believe it or not, these are what a majority of the responses to my articles look like these days. Although I’m much further to the Right than any of the “conservatives” lashing out at me, I’m actually being dubbed a “Leftie” or a “liberal” because I refuse to praise their President who can “do no wrong”. Their criticism makes absolutely no sense at all, being that my biggest complaint is Trump moving too far to the Left and betraying Faith-based voters. Something very troubling and dangerous is happening in America today.
The term “Conservative” in Politics has been redefined in the Trump era, and TRUE Conservatives like myself are finding ourselves without a Party and without a solid movement. The line between conservatives, nationalists, libertarians, and die-hard Republicans has been blurred. Every one that supports Donald Trump today has adopted the label of “Conservative”. They are mostly all far from it.
The definition of Conservative means someone who holds to “traditional” Judeo-Christian values. Yet today, popular political faces like homosexual Milo Yiannopoulos, abortion-supporting Tomi Lahren, and Trump-shilling FOX News hosts are all calling themselves “Conservative”. Sorry that I don’t identify them as people bleeding Conservative “values”. Sadly, it is not just conservatives who have sold out to Donald Trump though, it is CHRISTIANS.
Some of the vilest, crudest, and most vulgar criticism I have received concerning my Trump articles have come from so-called “Christians”. Trump has seemingly broken every Campaign Promise which he made to garner the votes of Christians. Yet, it is those like myself, who call him out for it, whom Christian Trump supporters are lashing out at. To this new breed of political Christians, Trump can do absolutely NO WRONG in their eyes.
Anyone like me, who implies that he has done wrong or lied to gain their votes, becomes a lying *insert expletive*. If the Trump Presidency has done one thing, it has really exposed the sad state of Christianity in this Nation. First, so-called Christians elected an antiChrist like Barack Hussein Obama TWICE, and now many of them are prostrating at the altar of a New York Liberal who is not delivering on the issues that should matter to Holy Bible believers.
I hate to say it, but MANY of my brothers and sisters in the Faith today are just as guilty of idol worship as believers who voted for Obama. There is a deafening hypocrisy amongst Republican Christian voters in America today. The same “conservatives”, who used to join me in condemning believers who treated Obama like a “Savior” and “Messiah”, are today viewing Donald Trump in the EXACT SAME way. They believe that HE ALONE can “save America”, and anyone who disagrees should be exiled from this Country.
If my fellow Christians were as passionate about the Holy Bible as they are about Politics today, or as in love with our GOD as they are with Donald J. Trump, America wouldn’t be in the mess that it is in!
When Obama broke his Campaign Promises to Israel, all Conservative Christians joined me in calling for his speedy impeachment. When Trump breaks the SAME promises, these SAME fellow conservative Christians make up every excuse in the book for “the Donald”. Though, he alone has all of the power and authority that he needs today to keep every promise. No one, and nothing, is stopping him except for his own unwillingness to deliver.
He was just over in Saudi Arabia giving a speech to the muslim world, which sounded like it was penned by the Obama Administration. He called Mecca one of the world’s “holiest” sites, and Islam one of the world’s “great faiths”. He said that Islamic terrorists “falsely” invoke the name of God, and he then “blessed” the Islamic world and their countries. When Barack Obama said these same words about terrorism, or blessed anything having to do with Islam, we Christian Conservatives were up in arms.
Many believers could not stop sharing my articles like “America’s 1st Islamic President”. Yet, now that President Trump is saying and doing virtually the EXACT SAME THINGS as the former president, all of a sudden it is not that big of a deal to my brothers and sisters. Apparently, since Trump says it in a different tone of voice perhaps, or because he has lighter skin, it doesn’t sound so blasphemous. IT IS BLASPHEMOUS! Wake up people.
This is gross hypocrisy and conservative Christians should be ashamed. I wouldn’t be surprised if I got attacked and trolled for what I’m about to say to all of you… Donald Trump is NOT GOD. He is a businessman who is now the President. That is all. I believe he is a liberal in conservative’s clothing, and a Republicrat. He is neither too “far-Right”, nor is he too “far-Left”. He has policies for everyone.
He is not a Conservative icon, nor is he the “Savior” of America. He is a celebrity who played a part to get elected President, and now his true colors are beginning to show. Sadly, instead of recognizing and protesting Trump’s change of tone, language, and policy since becoming President, his voters are instead blaming everyone else for Trump’s metamorphosis.
It’s the Democrats’ fault. It’s Congress’ fault. It’s Paul Ryan’s fault. It’s Barack Obama’s fault. It’s the Media’s fault. It’s Conservatives LIKE ME who are at fault. Newsflash: Trump is a big boy. He was smart enough to become President of the United State of America. I don’t think anyone is curtailing or derailing his agenda. I think the simple fact is that his agenda has CHANGED.
Case in point #1: Throughout the 2016 Election, he promised to move the American Embassy in Israel to the Capital of Jerusalem. Now that he is President, his Administration announced just last week that plans have CHANGED. There will be no moving of the Embassy because it may “harm the peace process” between Israel and Palestine. Funny, I remember Conservative Christians joining me in condemning Barack Obama for trying to forge a Peace Deal that would divide the Holy Land of Israel.
Christians were up in arms, and we believed that he could be the AntiChrist. NOW, that it is a “Republican” President trying to force Israel to give their Land to the Palestinians, apparently it’s a-ok. Nothing to see here. Move along. Now many believers see no problem with a “Land for Peace” Deal. So long as it is Trump doing the Deal. Also just last week, some of his top officials made clear that his Administration does NOT recognize the Western Wall as “property of Israel”!
The Administration also said that “JERUSALEM is a final status issue”, meaning that the Holy City is ON THE TABLE in a Peace Deal. This mirrors the anti-Israel Obama Administration policy, which states that Jerusalem does not belong to Israel (though it has been their God-given Capital for 3,000+ years). When Obama held these positions, we were calling for impeachment. When Trump does it… crickets.
The many influential Christian leaders surrounding Trump need to stop kissing his kiester and warn him of the curses he will bring upon his Presidency and America if he continues to attempt to divide Israel’s God-given Land. Trump has conceded to pressure by Jordanian king Abdullah, Egyptian president Sissi, and the Palestinian Authority to “REFRAIN” from relocating the Embassy. Meanwhile, Trump publicly asked NetanYahu to “HALT settlements”.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, said last month that “We received a direct message, not an indirect message, and not a hint from the United States. Imposing Israeli sovereignty on Judea and Samaria would mean an immediate CRISIS with the Trump Administration.” Excuse me while I vomit! This is supposed to be a Republican Administration!!! God help us.
Case in point #2: Trump, when speaking to a Christian audience on the Campaign Trail said, “So let me state this right up front: In a Trump Administration, our Christian heritage will be cherished, protected, defended. Because if I’m there, you’re going to have plenty of power. You don’t need anybody else. You’re going to have somebody representing you very, very well. Remember that.”
Yet back in February, Senior Trump adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, inspired their father to scrap a Religious Freedom Executive Order. After doing so, the White House released a statement which read, “President Trump continues to be respectful and SUPPORTIVE of LGBTQ rights, just as he was throughout the election. The President is proud to have been the first ever GOP nominee to mention the LGBTQ community in his nomination acceptance speech.”
The president of the Log Cabin Republicans, Gregory Angelo, said “Donald Trump campaigned promising to be a ‘real friend’ to the LGBT community, and now President Trump is delivering on that commitment”. So he was delivering for the LGBT, but what about the Christians who were supposed to have “plenty of power”? Trump filled his Administration’s ranks with LGBT advocates and anti-Israel generals.
His Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, was responsible in 2013 for pressuring the Boy Scouts of America to allow Gay scout leaders and gay scouts. Trump also personally appointed Betsy DeVos, who used her political connections to persuade Michigan Republicans to sign a brief urging the Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage in 2015. That sure explains why Trump has said that he would NOT overturn Gay Marriage as it is “settled Law”
When the President finally did unveil a Religious Freedom Executive Order on the National Day of Prayer, it was so watered down from the February Executive Order that many Conservatives called it a “nothing burger” which had “no teeth” and was “simply symbolic”. The Religious Freedom advocacy group, Alliance Defending Freedom, said that Trump’s order “still leaves his Campaign promises on Religious Liberty “unfulfilled.”
On top of that, to emphasize just how weak the Executive Order was at protecting Religious Freedom rights of believers, the Godless ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) announced that they would not have to sue the Trump Administration as previously thought. They called Trump’s Order an “elaborate photo-op with NO discernable policy outcome”. Well, isn’t that comforting.
Case in point #3: Trump promised voters that he would appoint a “CONSERVATIVE” Supreme Court Justice who would “OVERTURN Roe vs. Wade”. Apparently Judge Neil Gorsuch didn’t get the Memo. Gorsuch told Senators at his Hearing that he would be RELUCTANT to overturn any decision a previous Supreme Court body has made, speaking specifically to the 1973 Roe vs. Wade case that essentially legalized abortion in America.
When the Republican Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, questioned Gorsuch if Trump asked him during his nomination interview whether he would rule to overturn Roe vs. Wade, Gorsuch answered, “Senator, I would have WALKED OUT THE DOOR.”
When questioned about his views on Gay Marriage, he responded that “the Supreme Court of the United States has held that same-sex marriage is PROTECTED by the Constitution”, and that Gay Marriage is the “law of the land”. Neil Gorsuch is NO Conservative, no, not by any stretch of the imagination. So much for the argument so many Christian leaders gave during the Election to vote for Trump simply because of the “Supreme Court” issue alone.
Finally, how is that terribly BAD Iran Deal looking all torn up on the floor? Oh wait, Trump just EXTENDED IT. Nevermind. I hope that true Conservatives who are otherwise being deceived, to go along with whatever Trump does and says, would realize that they are currently being played by the Trump Administration. He is NOT delivering on any of his most important promises. He knows full well that HE DOESN’T HAVE TO.
As long as voters on the Right continue to defend him at every turn, never hold him accountable for anything, and worship him like a god, Donald Trump doesn’t have to deliver a darn thing. I’m not asking for the President to be impeached. I’m not saying Hillary Clinton would have been better, as she would have obviously been far worse. I’m simply saying that Conservative Christians must stop SETTLING.
Stop settling for getting very little from this President when he promised you all SO MUCH MORE. Stop making excuses for his inaction and his many broken promises. Start demanding action, and that he delivers on all that he has promised. In closing, I have felt very alone out here in Conservative land surrounded by a cult of Trumpers, so would the REAL Conservative Christians please STAND UP?!
“The thing displeased Samuel, when the people said, Give us A KING to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have NOT rejected thee, but they have REJECTED ME, that I should not reign over THEM.” ~ 1st Samuel 8:6-7
You ate not alone, excellent article and. Sadly true

You’ve nailed it, Michael. Idol worship is exactly what this is. This has been my conviction since I was praying over these elections, and the one of the words God impressed on my heart to warn God’s people was precisely 1 Samuel 8. I could read into Christians’ messages, before and right after the elections, a misplaced and blind trust in a man who was at best flawed, and at worst, an astute conman. All these people saying Trump was modern-day Cyrus reminded me of preachers praising Skull-and-Bones Bush as a kind of Messiah-like figure. Time seems to have proved us right.
Now I need to sadly conclude that Mr. Trump is “a king after the people’s own heart”, sent to show us how far we have backslidden and how desperately we need to come back to truly biblical faith, and pray for true discernment, which many of us are lacking.

Wonderful article Michael. So true , spot on, and sad. “Christians” have lost their ability to discern truth because of lack of time in prayer and God’s Word. The Church has failed the flock . It saddens my heart to see so many prominent religious leaders who have fallen into the Trump trap. Souls are at stake for eternity and the soul of America is at stake in this world. It’s the soul of man that concerns me most . God will be the final judge of false prophets and He will not be mocked.
You are not alone out here my friend . It’s a daily challenge to keep fighting the good fight but fight we must.

Very well stated! This Pastor is seeing many parallels between Trump and King Saul. Both came to power in much the same fashion. Both are doubleminded. I am reminded what James wrote about the doubleminded man. Both men are narcissists. Both went through a supposed “conversion”. I pray that I am wrong and not discerning this properly. But a close reading of I Samuel will show the truth. Time will tell. I will continue to pray for the Trump Administration while holding his feet to the fire. I will NOT submit myself to the Trump bandwagon and see him as “God’s annointed savior to the nation”. Christians had the chance to appoint a Godly leader as per Scriptural guidelines and none of the three final candidates met that criteria. The fact that a Trump can EVEN be elected is a testimony against the Church of the United States. We need to be in prayer and even fasting for the destiny of this nation.
