DUPED By The Donald: As I Expected, Trump Has Betrayed Conservative Christians

Throughout the 2016 Presidential Campaign, I warned fellow Christians night and day that Donald Trump was not a Conservative. Even though he was running as a Republican, I warned that he was a liberal values Democrat who had hijacked the GOP. I’m not saying that the Republican Party didn’t need to be hijacked, because throughout the Obama era they caved on many issues important to Holy Bible believers. The GOP doesn’t need a makeover or rebranding, but rather a revival. The Party has long needed to return to the traditional values of old, but I fear that under President Trump they will only move further in the wrong direction. Many on the Right who don’t do their homework on the new President love to shout me down on social media or say “Hillary would have been better huh?!” They just don’t get it. Of course I don’t want another evil democrat like Barack Hussein Obama or Hillary Clinton running the nation, but why must we settle for a liberal Republican who won’t enact the Conservative policies which Christians elected him to put in place?

We finally have a Republican President, and a Republican-dominated Government, yet very little has changed in the USA. Trumpers will disagree with me, but all of the “on Day One” promises which Donald Trump made to Christians on the Campaign Trail remain UNKEPT. When I first started to criticize Trump and hold him accountable for breaking promises to all of the Conservative Christians who held their nose and voted for him, a lot of his ardent supporters lashed out at me saying “it’s only been a few weeks, give him time!” Well, we’re now going on 2 months, and President Trump has still not kept his promises to Christians or Israel. I guess he seems to think that his supporters are so loyal and under his thumb, that he doesn’t need to keep any of those important promises he made. The sad thing is, he would probably be right in thinking that.

His supporters just keep defending his inaction, saying “just wait, he’ll get to that, but he has a lot on his plate”. Obama had a lot on his plate too, but wasted no time ramming through his liberal agenda and policies. Meanwhile, Trump isn’t ramming through any Conservative policies, even though he has everything in place Governmentally that he needs to do so. My conclusion, though many Republicans aren’t gonna wanna hear it, is that Conservatives who voted for Trump got PLAYED. Conned. Deceived. Bamboozled. Duped. He made so many promises to Christians to gain votes, and since taking office he has delivered on NONE of them.

President Trump currently enjoys all that a Republican President could ever desire – Party majority in the House, the Senate, and in State Governors’ mansions. He cannot be hindered one bit right now in keeping the many promises which he made to Christians and to Israel. Yet, for some odd reason, he has not even attempted to. When he spoke to Christian groups on the Campaign Trail, he said, “Let me state this right up front: In a Trump Administration, our Christian heritage will be cherished, protected, defended. Because if I’m there, you’re going to have plenty of power. You don’t need anybody else. You’re going to have somebody representing you very, very well. Remember that.”

I remember, but unfortunately a lot of my Christian brothers and sisters seem to have forgotten. Thusfar, Trump is representing the LGBT community very well, but Christians, not so much. Apparently, 80% of Evangelicals voted for Trump, and 52% of Catholics. I think it’s safe to assume that his votes from the LGBT community were under 5%. Yet, for some reason, President Trump is doing a whole lot for the LGBT folks, and virtually nothing for the Christians. This has been extremely sad and disappointing.

Trump said that the FIRST priority of his Administration would be to preserve and protect Religious Liberty, yet he has appeared to do the exact opposite. Senior Trump adviser, Jared Kushner, and his wife, Ivanka Trump, inspired their father to scrap a potential Executive Order that would have overturned a pro-LGBT and anti-Religious Freedom Order of the Obama Administration. The President’s White House released a statement which read, “President Trump continues to be respectful and SUPPORTIVE of “LGBTQ” rights, just as he was throughout the election. The President is proud to have been the first ever GOP nominee to mention the LGBTQ community in his nomination acceptance speech.”

The president of the Log Cabin Republicans, Gregory Angelo, said “Donald Trump campaigned promising to be a ‘real friend’ to the LGBT community, and now President Trump is delivering on that commitment”. So, Trump is delivering for the LGBT community, but not the Christian community. There were also rumours of a Trump Executive Order coming that would serve as a national “Religious Freedom” Bill protecting Christian businesses and their Biblical conscience from LGBT or pro-choice attacks and lawsuits, to which White House press secretary Sean Spicer said that the Administration had NO PLANS to roll out.

Meanwhile, a 72-year-old Christian florist and grandmother is on the verge of losing everything she owns for refusing to provide flowers for a gay wedding in Washington State. Also, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is currently suing Christian hospitals that refuse to perform abortions, and California and Illinois have passed laws forcing pro-life pregnancy centers to promote abortion. There are many Obama era attacks on the Religious Freedom of Christians still taking place all across the nation, but the new Republican President has been SILENT and definitely LIED about making Religious Liberty his “first” priority.

I’m not the only Conservative speaking out about Trump’s inaction and broken promises to Christians, though there are very few like me today. It appears to be a crime amongst my fellow Right-Wingers to speak anything negative about the POTUS. I thank God for other brave Conservative voices who aren’t afraid to speak out against the President when he is obviously selling us Holy Bible believers short. Voices like that of Erick Erickson, who recently said, “The truth is that I worry Donald Trump will do more long-term damage to Conservatives and the G.O.P. than anyone expects.” AMEN. I do more than worry though. I see it playing out in front of my very eyes daily.

I warned about Trump’s affinity for the LGBT cause so many times throughout the Election, but sadly my fellow Conservatives and Republicans didn’t wanna listen, or worse, they didn’t care. Trump put it all out there, and I don’t know if Christians just chose to ignore it or if they somehow found a way to justify it in their minds. I sure couldn’t. I cringed when Trump allowed his gay friend, Peter Thiel, to proclaim “I’m proud to be gay” from the stage of the GOP Convention while BASHING Christian policies in the Republican Platform. To this day, Trump is STILL selling “LGBTQ for Trump” merchandise on his official DonaldJTrump website. The caption for the merchandise says, “Show your PRIDE and your support for Trump with this exclusive EQUALITY tee.” Unbelievable.

Meanwhile, the official 2016 Republican Platform states that the Party intends to reverse the U.S. Supreme Court decision which legalized Gay Marriage, but President Trump seems to strongly oppose fulfilling this Platform promise to voters. In regard to the Gay Marriage ruling, Trump says that legalized homosexual marriage is “settled law”, that he is “fine with it”, and that we should “move on”. That is starkly different language than he used BEFORE Christians helped elect him President. On the Campaign Trail, he assured viewers of Pat Robertson’s CBN that he would FIND A WAY to “repeal” the Supreme Court’s “shocking” Gay Marriage decision. Though, now that he’s President, he appears to be “fine with it” because it is “settled law”. Again I must say to my Christian brothers and sisters… you got DUPED.

My biggest concern today is not that Trump is betraying Christians, but rather that so many of the popular influential Christian leaders who helped to elect him are SILENT while he does so. Just because he has an [R] next to his name, it shouldn’t mean that he gets away with doing the same things that we condemn the Democrats for doing. For years, I’ve heard it been said that politicians are “ALL THE SAME”, and I’ve never believed that more than I do today. Both major Parties appear to be crooked, corrupt, and out for only themselves. Just today, it was reported that President Trump chose open homosexual and LGBT advocate Rick Grenell to be the U.S. Ambassador to NATO. In my eyes, the lines between right and wrong and good and evil in the Political realm have never been more blurred.

The appointment would make Grenell the highest-ranking open homosexual serving in the Trump administration. He is a strong supporter of “gay marriage”, and he regularly criticizes “loud religious-right activists” (like me). Trump has also personally appointed Betsy DeVos and Anthony Scaramucci who are both pro-LGBT. Devos used her political connections to persuade Michigan Republicans to sign a brief urging the Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage in 2015. Funny, I thought that this was supposed to be a “Republican” Administration? It also makes me sick when I hear people call this one of the most “Conservative” Administrations in a long time. Excuse me while I puke.

As if all of this was not enough to make a true Conservative Christian’s blood boil, it was also reported this week that one of John Kerry’s closest confidantes, Michael Ratney, is now in charge of the “Israeli-Palestinian portfolio” at the Trump State Department. Ratney demonized the State of Israel regularly, along with his bosses, Obama and Kerry. For some reason, Trump approves of his Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, designating the anti-Israel Obama Deputy to be in charge of “Israeli-Palestinian peace”. It’s really no surprise though, because Tillerson is obviously nowhere near a Conservative himself.

Like most of Trump’s Administration, Tillerson is allied with the radical “LGBT lobby”. Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, said that Tillerson “risked the well-being of young boys under his charge in an attempt to placate radical homosexual activists.” He is referring to an instance in 2013, when the former Exxon-Mobil CEO pressured the Boy Scouts of America to allow gay scouts and gay scout-leaders. Tillerson was the president of the BSA from 2010 to 2012, and thus he had major influence on the organization’s landmark decision to endanger young boys.

Another Obama Administration holdover who has been given a job with the Trump Administration is Obama’s “International LGBT Envoy” Randy Berry. Berry’s job entails promoting acceptance of homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism abroad “in the name of U.S. foreign policy”. REALLY?? Tony Perkins also commented on this shocking appointment by the President, saying that “Keeping Berry only signals to the world that the extreme agenda of the Obama years is still deeply entrenched in the State Department.” It sure does look that way.

In December, Perkins said, “The Obama administration has systematically filled the ranks of State with LGBTQ and abortion activists. Unless the next Secretary of State is willing to resist and remove this embedded agenda, the promotion and protection of true human rights, like Religious Liberty, will continue to languish.” Unfortunately, under Secretary of State Tillerson, it appears that they will still languish. God help us.

Michael Flynn, Trump’s first National Security Adviser, who was fired when it was revealed that he had close ties with the Russians, recently filed papers acknowledging that he worked as a foreign agent last year representing the interests of TURKEY. For those of you unfamiliar with the Islamic nation, Turkey is led by one of the most anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, and anti-Israel dictators in the world. Yet, this man was Trump’s BEST choice for the position? He obviously doesn’t do much vetting, but in the case that he does, it is great cause for concern.

If you haven’t been wholly disappointed with the people that Trump has surrounded himself with in the new Government, wait, there’s more. Trump’s Defense Secretary, James “Mad Dog” Mattis wants the Pentagon’s top civilian job to go to a staunch supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood. Yep, you heard me right. After 8 years of us Conservatives trying to warn the Country about Obama stacking his Administration with Muslim Brotherhood backers, we now have to worry about them infiltrating a Republican Administration? What planet are we living on exactly?!

Many of my Conservative friends just love “Mad Dog” Mattis, and I wish that they knew what I know, because if they did then they most certainly would NOT. In the General’s confirmation hearing at the Senate Armed Services Committee, Mattis told the Senators that he believes “Tel Aviv is Israel’s capital as far as he is concerned”, NOT Jerusalem. He has also used the Islamic racist term of “Apartheid State” when referring to our greatest Ally, the Nation of Israel. Mattis is “MAD” indeed! What a disgrace. Speaking of Israel, the Trump administration recently “WARNED” Israel against annexing parts of Judea and Samaria, saying that such a move would trigger an “immediate crisis” between America and Israel. WHAT?!

How in the world am I writing about a Republican Administration using the words WARNED and CRISIS toward Israel in a negative way?! I was relieved when Obama’s 8 hellish years were over so that I didn’t have to write about the U.S. being cursed for cursing Israel, and now I’m writing about it with a Republican President?? Trump had better be careful, because Almighty God does not favor Political Parties. America will be cursed and fall under judgment when the Country’s leadership threatens or bullies His Chosen Nation of Israel. So Trump, that was the first time that you “warned” Israel, and for America’s sake, it had better be the LAST TIME!

Israel’s Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, said “We received a direct message, not an indirect message, and not a hint from the United States. Imposing Israeli sovereignty on Judea and Samaria would mean an immediate CRISIS with the new administration.” Excuse me while I vomit AGAIN. This new obsession with Israel building on their God-given Land by the Trump Administration is the exact same attitude that was held by the Obama Administration. This also explains why Trump has not kept his promise to move the American Embassy to Israel’s Eternal Capital JERUSALEM.

Though he promised Faith-based voters and Israel NUMEROUS TIMES on the Campaign Trail to move the Embassy, now that he is in Office it appears that it is another promise which he does not intend to keep. Palestinian news sources have reported that the Trump Administration transferred a message to the Palestinian Authority that the embassy “WOULD NOT BE MOVING” to Jerusalem. God forgive you Donald Trump if you don’t keep the promises which you have made to God’s people. You’ll never make America “great again” while you’re betraying Israel.

Finally, this week Trump unveiled his new “Travel Ban” Executive Order, and while I fully supported the previous one, this one is a huge disappointment to say the least. Christians fleeing the Middle East due to Islamic persecution will NO LONGER have “priority” as they did in the last Executive Order. The new version eliminates the language that prioritizes “religious minorities”, and the Order goes into effect next week. So, in a nutshell, President Trump is breaking EVERY promise which Candidate Trump made to Conservative Christians, and yet CPAC embraced him with open arms. Conservatives are defending him left and right, though he is indefensible.

I didn’t vote for Trump, because I expected him to do everything that he is currently doing. When I made clear I that I couldn’t vote for him, many of my fellow Right-Wingers were up in arms and hurled insults and vulgarities at me. The trouble with Trump is not so much that he is breaking promises, it’s that Conservative Christians and Jews aren’t calling him out for it. As long as I remain one of the lone voices criticizing him, while a majority of Conservatives let him get away with it, he’ll never make an effort to make good on his promises. So keep on telling me “give him time”, and 4 years from now you’ll come to realize that you’ve been DUPED by a liberal con man masquerading as a Conservative Republican. I’ll really hate to say I told you so.
