Over the course of the past few years, I’ve written many articles about my concerns with the direction that “Conservatism” has been heading. Unfortunately, my fears for the moral movement have finally come to fruition. Due to the disintegration of traditional American Conservatism and of the “Religious Right”, I recently stopped referring to myself as “Conservative” and “Right-Wing”.
I found myself having to be more specific when describing my political ideology, so as not to be grouped together with “alt-right” white nationalists, radical populists, trendy libertarian “conservatives”, extreme gun enthusiasts, and either the Trump-scathing or Trump-worshipping Republicans. I began referring to myself simply as a “Conservative CHRISTIAN”.
I thought that the label would be distinctive enough that I would not be lumped in with any of the aforementioned factions of the “new conservative movement”. Yet even that label, which I assumed would make crystal clear that I was a Conservative guided by Biblical beliefs, values and ideals, was surprisingly not contrasting enough.
Too many of the groups that I mentioned are also now identifying as “Christian Conservatives”, but they most certainly do not fit the bill. The sad reality is that the “Traditional American Conservative”, as we have known it, is a dying breed. There are not many of us left. For decades, we have been known as the “Christian Right”, “Social Conservatives”, and the “Moral Majority” of the Republican Party. These titles cannot be used to describe the “New” Conservative Movement of America today.
There are many reasons for the current calamity in conservativism – A younger generation being more liberal – Believers putting politics over faith – The fact we have become a Biblically-ignorant nation. While over ¾ of Americans identify as Christians, recent studies have found that over 50% of Americans rarely or NEVER read the Holy Bible, and that only 1 in 10 hold a Biblical worldview.
So, the United States is comprised of a lot of “in-name only” Christians. This is why the Republican Party has become more moderate in recent years, and has even moved to the Left on what were long believed to be “uncompromisable” social issues. This also explains why today’s so-called “Christian” Conservatives are not too concerned with the moral issues of our day and age, but are instead focused on “nationalist”, “populist”, and “economic” issues.
Many believers, who are referring to themselves as “Conservatives” politically, are very vocal about gun-rights, freedom of speech, immigration, and national pride. They are much less outspoken when it comes to the issues Christians should be focusing on, such as Morality, Abortion, Marriage, and restoring America’s Judeo-Christian Values.
The new movement of conservatives aligns more with the “Libertarian” worldview, but for some reason they have hijacked the Conservative label. It could be that being Conservative is appealing to them, because it is the exact opposite of being Liberal. Yet, Libertarian views align much more with liberalism than they do with Conservatism, and that is why the whole political landscape in America today has become so blurred and confusing.
I believe most Republicans are calling themselves Conservative because it’s the “hip” and “trendy” thing to do, but I don’t think that they have any idea what the label truly means. This belief of mine was proven true at the recent CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) event. The annual gathering is advertised as the largest gathering of “Conservative minds” in America.
With the exceptions of Ben Shapiro, Vice President Mike Pence, Ted Cruz, Mark Levin, and Dana Loesch, a majority of the speakers were a melting pot of alt-right, moderate, libertarian, nationalist Republicans. As I conveyed at the start of this article, the definition of a Conservative is “a person resistant to change, holding to TRADITIONAL VALUES”.
To me, and to many bearing the label for decades, that means holding to the Judeo-Christian values of America’s founders. Those values entail being pro-life, pro-family, pro-Biblical Marriage, pro-Israel, and opposing immoral lifestyles (namely LGBT). Yet, CPAC’s “headliners” included –
- BETSY DEVOS, who is pro-LGBT, and helped recruit signatories to a 2015 amicus brief “supporting the legalization of same-sex marriage”. Real “Conservative”…
- CHARLIE KIRK, the “Turning Point USA” founder, sounds far more like a Libertarian than a Conservative. He has said that the “gay issue” is dead in the Republican Party, and that “it’s time to move on to bigger things”. He says that the one thing that holds Republicans together is “freedom, freedom, freedom”. I’m sorry Charlie, but I think you confuse Republicans with Libertarians. Even freedom must have its limits. What I mean by that is Charlie welcomes drug legalization and the redefinition of marriage, all in the name of “freedom”. He has said, “We should welcome Gay marriage… and whatever!” While Charlie was a follower of mine on Twitter, and vice versa, we definitely do not hold the same “Conservative” worldview. I had to unfollow him when I learned of his liberal-leaning beliefs.
- SARAH WESTWOOD, a reporter for the Washington Examiner and cable news contributor, has said, “I know that neither I nor (almost) anybody else coming of age today supports the Republican social agenda. That’s the way the country is moving—so just deal with it. Modernize and prioritize. Though it may be painful, though it may be costly at the polls in the short run, Republicans don’t have a future unless they break up with the Religious Right and the gay-bashing, Bible-thumping fringe that gives the party such a bad rap with every young voter.” So now attacking traditional Conservatives makes YOU a “Conservative”? Unbelievable…
- JUDGE JEANINE PIRRO, popular FOX News host, was the first Republican candidate for statewide office to march in New York City’s Gay Pride parade in 2006. She was also the first candidate from any political party to ever run television ads in which her support for the gay community was stated explicitly. “From the time I ran for judge, the first time I ran for DA, I have always worked with the gay and lesbian community, and I have always sought their support”. Wonder how many of her FOX News viewers are aware of the Judge’s very anti-Conservative views?
- RONNA MCDANIEL, the RNC Chair, said of the pro-Gay Marriage, anti-Christian Group “Log Cabin Republicans – “As the nation’s original and largest organization advocating for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, the work you do is critical in supporting liberty and equality for all. The Republican Party prides itself on being an inclusive Big Tent Party that fights for the values that Make America Great. We are fortunate to have strong, freedom-fighting advocates like the Log Cabin Republicans with us, and we stand with you in pursuit of individual liberty, limited government, and equal rights under law… On behalf of our Party, we will continue to stand with the Log Cabin Republicans as you advance the ideals of freedom over oppression — now, and for years to come. Your voices make our Party stronger, and our nation greater.” And people ask why I will never call myself a “Republican”. There’s your answer…
- GARY JOHNSON, the 2016 Libertarian Presidential Candidate, who is pro-choice, supports Gay Marriage and recreational marijuana legalization. Absolutely nothing about Johnson is “Conservative”.
These are not the only Libertarians who have masqueraded as Conservatives at CPAC. I’m sure you’re all familiar with the popular social media “gay” Trump supporter, MILO YIANNOPOLOUS. Last year, despite objections raised by “true” Conservatives, CPAC had him slated to be their Keynote Speaker.
The only reason they were finally forced to pull him from their lineup was that past comments by Milo surfaced endorsing “pederasty”. For those of you that don’t know, that means sexual relations between men and boys. And he was going to be the KEYNOTE Speaker of CPAC! What a joke…
Then there is TOMI LAHREN, the former Blaze star and current “Hannity” contributor. Last year on “the View”, the self-described Conservative shocked many of her fans when she admitted that she supported abortion rights. Her reasoning was that “it would be hypocritical of me to believe the government should decide what women should do with their bodies”.
She said, “You know what? I’m for limited government, so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.” Pro-life advocates rightly said that it was impossible for Lahren to be both conservative AND in favor of abortion. Tell that to CPAC… She said, in defense of her comments, “Conservatives don’t have to exist in a monolith and share the same brain on every issue. I have moderate, conservative, and libertarian views. I’m human. I will never apologize, to anyone, for being an independent thinker.”
Well Tomi, by the definition of “Conservative”, it is impossible to be “moderate”, “libertarian” AND “conservative”. You can’t be for AND against Conservative values. Apparently though, the “NEW Conservative Movement” doesn’t care what you’re for, so long as you support the Republican agenda and talking points.
Though CPAC is supposed to be all about discussing and promoting the “Conservative” agenda, the nearly 70 speeches given were mostly about tax cuts, gutting government regulations, locking Hillary up, the Second Amendment, and immigration. Traditional Conservative issues like Religious Freedom, defunding Planned Parenthood, overturning Gay Marriage, restoring family values and Judeo-Christian morals, and returning America to God took a backseat (if they were mentioned at all).
One Christian Conservative Group was actually disinvited from CPAC because their message was “too offensive” to the LGBT Groups in attendance. Yes, you read that right. A CHRISTIAN Group at a “Conservative” Conference was disinvited in favor of anti-Christian LGBT Groups. Do you all see why I can no longer associate myself with the “New” Conservative Movement?
A 25-year old grassroots network of pro-family activists, known as “MassResistance” (formerly the Parents’ Rights Coalition), had applied for a booth at CPAC, were vetted, and approved in late January. Shortly thereafter, they were abruptly disinvited. The reason given by the ACU (American Conservative Union) was that their “tone” was not respectful toward their political opponents.
A spokesperson for MassResistance said that “CPAC’s hypocrisy on ‘tone’ is clear, in light of its inclusion of the radical LGBT group Log Cabin Republicans for the third year in a row”. The Log Cabinites once ran a full page ad in the USA Today coinciding with the Republican National Convention, where they slammed the Party’s platform committee as “LOSERS” and “MORONS” for defending traditional marriage. How’s that for respectful ‘tone’?
True Conservatives stand for Biblical (traditional) marriage, so why then is the group who maligns us for that invited to CPAC, and a Christian group is not? I believe the answer is that CPAC, like many modern Churches today, desires bigger crowds by watering down their message. They want to draw in the youth by talking less about hot-button moral issues, and more about the economy, jobs, freedom, and guns. Much less about GOD, and what He says is right and wrong.
That is why the LGBT Groups are now comfortable at CPAC, because no one there is opposing their radical agenda or Gay Marriage anymore. One 19 year old college student attending CPAC said, “Obviously, the LGBT should have marriage equality. I’m all for that, as I think are a lot of people at CPAC.” I would have never imagined that I would hear those words spoken at a “Conservative” Conference… “a lot of people are all FOR that”. What a shame.
CPAC is nothing but a sham. Just ask the “transgender activists” that were in attendance. Yes, that’s right, transgenders attended CPAC. They were photographed holding up a rainbow Gadsden (“Don’t Tread on Me”) flag, and also held up placards reading: “Proud to be Conservative” – “Proud to be Transgender” – “Proud to be American” – “#SameTeam” … Ok, first of all, you cannot be Conservative and a “Gay Pride” transgender. The two are antithetical.
Does that mean that we Conservatives hate gays or transgenders? Absolutely not. We love them like we love all human beings. Though we cannot ignore, nor remain silent, when they flaunt their abominable sins and openly rebel against God. Yet CPAC was allowing them to do JUST THAT. This brings a Biblical verse to mind –
“The look on their faces testifies against them; and they declare their sin AS SODOM, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul!” ~ Isaiah 3:9
Holy Bible believers and LGBT Pride-pushers are most certainly NOT on the #SameTeam. The leader of the transgender group, Jennifer Williams, was admittedly “giddy” at the absence of Social Conservative groups, and upon hearing that MassResistance was disinvited. “There’s not even one workshop regarding Traditional Marriage this year”, she said.
That is extremely SAD. She was right, as attendees said that there was not one strictly pro-family or pro-marriage group present at CPAC in 2018. It begs the question, how many such groups were also disinvited, or banned from the event altogether? As a longtime true Conservative, I feel as if CPAC has become my adversary.
It is not just LGBT groups that have hijacked CPAC though, it is also ATHEISTS. In 2016 and 2017, the group “Atheist Voter” had a table at CPAC. In 2015, its parent organization, “American Atheists” was granted a main stage speech. The groups push for “God-less government policies”, removal of Christian ideology from all government, repeal of religious exemptions from onerous LGBT laws, and more reporting requirements on churches.
They fully support the LGBT agenda, abortion, and fight “abstinence-only until marriage” sex education. So groups who are pushing the exact OPPOSITE agenda of true Conservatism are a part of the “Conservative Political Action” Conference. How can you combat the agendas of political enemies when you allow them to promote THEIR Godless agendas at your event?!
It’s crystal clear that the American Conservative Union, who runs CPAC, is more concerned with conserving the money in their own bank account every year than they are with spreading Conservative values in America. When asked if CPAC has become less socially Conservative and more Libertarian in its outlook, CPAC Executive Director Dan Schneider told LifeSiteNews that “CPAC is more socially Conservative in its point of view than ever.” HA! What a joke.
“The American Conservative Union is over fifty years old. I don’t know if there have ever been more pro-life, pro-family social conservatives than our founders, and our leaders today as well.” Perhaps the founders were socially Conservative, but the current leaders of ACU and CPAC are the enemies of Social Conservatism. A writer for LifesiteNews, Doug Mainwaring (who is a former homosexual), perfectly summed up what CPAC, and American Conservatism as a whole, has become – “While I felt at home at CPAC while gay, I feel like a stranger there today.”
Appearing on Fox News, the CPAC president Matt Schlapp said that “50% of the crowd at this year’s Conference is college-aged or younger. We’re attracting NEW people and NEW voices to the movement.” He sure is attracting “new” people and voices because the movement being created by CPAC is everything BUT Conservative. I wonder just how many of the “old” faces don’t attend anymore. I’m sure most of them.
As I have proved in this article, the term “Conservative” has been redefined, and Traditional Conservatives like myself now find ourselves without a Party and without a national movement. The lines between conservatives, libertarians, moderates, white nationalists, and RINO Republicans have been blurred. It appears to me that virtually all Republicans today want to be labeled Conservative, without having to actually live out the meaning of the word.
So, as of today, I will no longer call myself a “Conservative” Christian. To avoid any and all confusion in the future, from henceforth, my political label will simply be “HOLY BIBLE-BELIEVING CHRISTIAN”. This way, no one can ever question WHERE I STAND.
