Today, there are many Christians who pay no heed to the Feast of Passover while, on the other hand, there are many of our brothers and sisters who keep ONLY the Biblical Feasts of the Jews and ignore Christmas, Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. Both groups of believers, in my eyes, are wrong. Concerning Passover, I will lay out the many reasons why Christians should observe the Feast in this article, but also why we do not have to observe it exactly as the Jews were commanded to by Almighty God. Concerning those Christians who keep only the Biblical Feasts, yet condemn their brothers and sisters who celebrate Christmas and “Easter”, I defend the reasons why we should celebrate Lord Jesus through these Holidays in my previous articles “War On The CHRIST of Christmas Begins Again” and “It’s All About JESUS: The Truth About ‘Easter’”. This article will solely concentrate on the Biblical Feast of Passover and its vital importance to BOTH Jews and Christians today.
I have personally believed, for about a decade, that we are living in a modern day Egypt/Babylon and thus I believe that God’s promises to Old Testament Jews residing in ancient Egypt and Babylon ring just as true for us today. I believe that Christians who ignore the Old Testament’s Holy Feasts and Sabbaths, specifically the Passover, miss out on many blessings of The LORD, especially His Divine Protection.
I believe that the Feast of the Passover is the one day/week of the Year (besides Good Friday) when believers can guarantee, beyond a shadow of a doubt, God’s powerful defense of our Homes and loved ones YEAR-ROUND. I think of Passover as “the Biblical prescription for God’s protection”. I say that because when speaking to the Israelites dwelling in Egypt, in the Book of Exodus, God promised to PASS OVER their dwellings and to keep danger, disaster, and evil far from them if they followed one simple prescription BY FAITH.
“Thus saith The LORD, You shall take of the blood (of the LAMB), and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of your houses… And the BLOOD shall be to you for a SIGN upon the houses where you are: and when I SEE the blood, I will PASS OVER you, and the plague shall NOT be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt… And THIS DAY shall be unto you for a memorial; and you shall keep it a Feast to the Lord throughout your generations; you shall keep it a Feast by an ordinance FOR EVER… And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when HE SEES THE BLOOD upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the Lord will PASS OVER the door, and will not allow the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. And you shall OBSERVE this thing for an ordinance to you and to your sons FOR EVER.” – Exodus 12:7, 13-14, 22-24
Now obviously, I’m not in any way shape or form suggesting animal sacrifice, because our ETERNAL LAMB has already been sacrificed for us. That Lamb is of course the God-Man, our Lord and Saviour, JESUS CHRIST, whom John the Baptist referred to as “the Lamb of God”.
“For even Christ our PASSOVER is sacrificed FOR US.” – 1st Corinthians 5:7
“John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, Behold the LAMB OF GOD, which taketh away the sin of the world.” – John 1:29 & 36
“He (Jesus) was brought as a lamb to the slaughter.” – Isaiah 53:7
“But with the precious BLOOD of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” – 1st Peter 1:19
“And it was the PREPARATION of the passover (sacrifice), and about the sixth hour: and Pilate said unto the Jews, BEHOLD your King (Jesus)!” – John 19:14
“And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the Throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a LAMB as it had been slain… And when He (Jesus) had taken the Book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb…” – Revelation 5:6 & 8
All of these references to Jesus as the Lamb of God have led me to believe that the Passover prescription for God’s protection of His people has not changed in thousands of years. His command to the Israelites remains the same to His children today, which is to mark our homes in the Blood of the Lamb of God to receive His powerful protection, and that He may PASS OVER us when His Wrath comes down upon this Nation and world. So, I’m sure you’re asking yourselves, how do I “mark” my home in the Blood of the Lamb? It’s much simpler than you might think.
Instead of marking the doorposts of our homes in actual “blood”, we instead can symbolically mark and cover our homes in the Blood of JESUS, our Passover Lamb. If God passed over His precious people when they marked their homes in the blood of a mere animal, how much MORE will He not pass over US today when we mark our homes in the Blood of His Only Begotten Son?? I personally have marked my home in the Blood of Lord Jesus every Passover feast for nearly a decade, and continue to each new year.
For Jesus, our Passover Lamb, was crucified at roughly the same time that the Passover lambs were being slain in the temple, on the afternoon of Nisan 14. Thanks be to God, He has kept His faithful promise in the Book of Exodus to keep the destroyer, the spoiler, all danger, disaster, and plagues from my home. He will do the same for you, if you dedicate your home to Him, cover it in the Blood of His Son, and believe it BY FAITH.
All that you need to do is get a bottle of grape juice (preferably kosher) or red wine, as both resemble the color of blood, on the eve of Passover (or on the day of). Next I take my Holy Bible, and read Exodus, Chapter 12, aloud by the front door of my home. I proclaim to God that I’m not just marking the doorposts in the blood of a mere animal as the Israelites of old, but in the precious, Holy, sinless, and undefiled Blood of His Son, the Lamb of God, Christ Jesus. I then dip my finger into the grape juice or wine, and mark the sign of the Cross upon the middle of my upper doorpost, and then on each side doorpost.
I repeat this procedure on all the doors in my home, both front and back, along with in house doorways and all windows. You only need to do your front door as an act of Faith to be recognized by God, but I like to ensure the best possible protection for my home and loved ones, so I do every door and window. Ever since the first year that I began to do this, no severe weather or disaster has done damage to my home, and I truly believe that God is honoring His Exodus 12 Promise to pass over me.
Now, if you cannot do this on the Eve, on the day or in the week of the Passover, I would suggest doing this symbolic Biblical ritual on Good Friday or any Friday (preferably at 3:00 pm). Friday was the day that our Lord was crucified, and shed His Blood on the Cross for us. 3:00 was the hour when he breathed His last breath and died on the Cross. As to keeping all of the prescriptions of the Feast of Passover or any of the Biblical Feasts, we as Christians are not bound to do so.
However, I do recommend keeping the Feasts Holy and keeping a Sabbath Rest on the Holy Days. The commands of eating “unleavened bread” during the Passover Feast were meant solely for the Jewish people, but as an act of Faith and to honor God, I do not eat leavened bread on the day of Passover. I do my best to avoid leavened bread throughout the week of Passover, but of course if I slip up, God does not hold it against me. I’m performing an act of Faith, therefore it is not a requirement by God for me to do so.
Whether or not you try to keep any prescriptions of the Old Testament’s Biblical Feasts is solely between you and God, but I highly recommend at least marking your home in the Blood of Jesus. It will fill you with a strong sense of peace and rid you of fear whenever tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires or plagues arise near your home. I believe that every single word of the Holy Bible is 100% truth, as it is the Word of God. Thus the Passover Promise from thousands of years ago, which God made for the protection of believers’ homes, holds true to THIS VERY DAY. How could you not take advantage of it?!
As to the coming Holy Days of Good Friday and “Easter” (Resurrection Day), as I said in my “All About JESUS” article last year, Christians should not ignore them simply because they may not always fall directly in line with the Passover Feast. In the Biblical Greek, what we now know as “Easter” was originally known as “Pascha”, a word derived from Aramaic and cognate to the Hebrew word “Pesach” which meant “PASSOVER”.
The original Jewish Passover sometimes falls on a different date than “Easter” because leaders of the institutional Church during the time of Constantine and the Council of Nicaea decided that it should always fall on a Sunday. Regardless of what day, or week, or season, that the Christian celebration falls, we should always observe it to remind ourselves, and others, of what our Lord did for us on the Cross, and what He brings us through His Resurrection.
In the years, like this Year, when Passover is celebrated on a different date than “Easter”, I believe it gives us TWO solemn occasions in which we can remember and celebrate what our Father in Heaven and His Son, our Lord Jesus, have done FOR US. Blessed be the Lamb of God forevermore!
“For God (YHWH) so loved the world, that He gave HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, that whosoever believes IN HIM should not perish, but have EVERLASTING LIFE. For God sent NOT His Son into the world to CONDEMN the world; but that the world THROUGH Him might be SAVED. He that believes on Him is NOT condemned: but he that believes NOT is condemned ALREADY, because he has not believed IN THE NAME of the Only Begotten SON OF GOD.” – John 3:16-18
