THE COMING SIGNS OF OUR TIMES: THE THIRD AND FOURTH TRUMPETS

“And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.” – Revelation 8:6

This is the 5th installment of my 14-week series on the Book of Revelation. In the past four weeks, I’ve covered what events occur pre and post-Rapture, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the 6th Seal, and the identity of the 144,000 servants of God who are sealed during the Tribulation. This week, I’ll share another preview from my book, THE COMING SIGNS OF OUR TIMES, about some of the trumpets being blown after the 7th Seal is broken by Lord Jesus.

The first four judgments that the LORD brings upon the earth, through the first four trumpets that the angels will sound, are referred to as the judgments of “thirds.” This is because they will each destroy ⅓ of something. This article will examine the third and fourth trumpets. If you want to read about the first two trumpets, then you will have to go grab the book!

If you received gift cards for Christmas, you can use them to grab it or any of my books on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Booksamillion, Walmart, Audible, and Itunes. Until then, enjoy this preview from the 4th chapter of my new book: “Seventh Seal and Four Trumpets”…

And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.” – Revelation 8:10-11

Like the first two trumpet judgments, I believe the third trumpet involves a meteor, asteroid, or comet, plummeting to the earth. It would be irresponsible of Prophecy teachers to explain it away as something else, because the description is identical to the sight of one of these objects falling from the heavens. To me, a “great star burning as a lamp” couldn’t be any more clear. The “third” that is destroyed in this judgment will be a ⅓ part of the waters. While the last judgment referred to oceans, this judgment is alluding to all other bodies of water on the earth – the rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, wetlands, etc. The star called Wormwood will poison the earth’s fresh water supply, making it bitter and undrinkable. This is why John says that many men will die of the water.

Wormwood is mentioned throughout the Old Testament as a bitter poisonous herb that causes affliction. At this time in history, it will bring a season of unrivaled affliction to the inhabitants of Earth. Since the dawn of mankind, humans have not been able to survive without water. It makes up at least 60% of our bodies, and every living cell inside of us depends on it to continue functioning properly. We can go more than three weeks without food, but the maximum time that we can go without water is generally between only 3-7 days.

About 97% of Earth’s water is in the ocean, and the previous judgment polluted ⅓ of it with blood. Less than 3% of our water supply is freshwater, and only about 1% of that is accessible since most of it is trapped in glaciers and snowfields. On top of all this, freshwater is used to irrigate crops; and crop irrigation is vital in providing Earth’s population with enough food. When ⅓ of our freshwater is poisoned, and we can only access 1% as it is, water will be more valuable than gold and famine will be widespread.

“And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.” – Revelation 8:12

The fourth trumpet completes the judgments of thirds. This time, a ⅓ part of the sun, the moon, and the stars are all darkened. This will lead to shorter days, longer darker nights, and large drops in temperature. On some cloudy nights, and in major cities, the stars are already difficult to see in the night sky. This event will make them nearly invisible, and will have detrimental effects on Earth. Vegetation growth, animal behavior, flow of the oceans, and daily lifestyles of human beings would all be thrown out of whack.

The first four trumpets being sounded lead to major food and water shortages all over the world; and just when you would think that things couldn’t get much worse for the world, the next three trumpets are heralded by three “woes.” A woe is an exclamation of grief or distress over an impending doom or the wrath of God. Out of the nearly 100 times that the word is used in the Bible, this is the only verse that ever repeats it three times. That doesn’t bode well for the inhabitants of Earth going forward.

That will do it or this week’s installment. Next week, I’ll be talking about the 5th and 6th Trumpets. “I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!” – Revelation 8:13
